“Our lives are not predestined, the world is not done, and we are not puppets in it. We are made genetically to be able to be happy in an imperfect world that is endlessly unfolding.” Albert Pesso.
I am an accredited PBSP therapist, an integrative psychotherapist and a Life Coach based in Oxfordshire. 10 years ago, I made the decision to train in PBSP and I was fortunate enough to train with Al Pesso and with his long-term collaborator and friend a Dutch psychiatrist called Lowijs Perequin. I was a trained Life Coach, I have now trained as a psychotherapist and set up PBSP Ltd. Pesso Boyden informs my work as a life coach and therapist.
My background is in theatre and performing arts and I was drawn to this method as Al Pesso and Diane Boyden who created the system in 1961 in New York, were dancers and choreographers. They understood the power of imagination, ritual and symbolism as well as understanding how the link between the mind and the body. Initially, they were interested in helping develop the work of their dance students, but soon after they Pesso Boyden into a powerful form of therapy which they continued to shape and develop.
Over the past 40 years, Al Pesso and Diane Boyden-Pesso have perfected an extraordinarily effective technique…. providing people with experiences that were missing during their growth and development. The artistry of [a Pesso Boyden] ‘structure’ can be a unique and profoundly life-altering experience.’ Prof Bessel van der Kolk, (an international authority on working with trauma).
I have found PBSP to be one of the most effective therapies I have ever experienced. PBSP seems to touch issues that other methods cannot reach and gets to the heart of the matter. It is an effective and deeply respectful therapeutic process which can help you identify emotional deficits and then goes on to help create ‘new memories’. It has been likened to getting in a time machine, travelling back into a hypothetical past and finally getting a sense of completion, satisfaction and peace. Suddenly the world starts to look different.
PBSP can work powerfully in a one-to-one session. However, as well as working with individuals I also run workshops and residences. Working in a group, I believe, adds depth and another dimension to the work.
